Thanks God  we arrived safely  in Tirana, Albania that afternoon.  From there, we were picked up by a bus with a tour guide  going to our hotel in Durrës, the second largest city and municipality of Albania. The 4-star hotel we stayed in is nice due to its location along the beach.

I set the alarm at 5:30 AM the next day since I planned to go walking along the beach before we will be heading to Krujë, one of our destinations that day.  After around 40 minutes of driving we arrived in this city of Albania.

The castle of Kruje, Krujë in Albanian, was the last to fall into the hands of the Ottomans, 10 years after the death of George Castriota Scanderbeg. And there fell, not because they took it by force, but because the besiegers having had surrendered guaranteed to save his life. They all died, because the Ottomans did not stay to the covenants. It was October the 15th , 1478.

Kruje today is a city of Albania with a little more than 13,000 inhabitants, perched on the rocks. The castle now houses a museum dedicated to Giorgio Castriota, in Albanian  Skënderbej or Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu.  I would say, the castle is   worth a visit especially if you are a lover of culture and history.

The Skanderbeg Museum . It honors George Kastrioti Skanderbeg (1405–1466), a national hero of Albania. The museum is located inside Krujë Castle and the restored bazaar. The citadel includes a restored house from the Ottoman era that is now the Ethnographic Museum.

The weather actually don’t know what to do that day. There was sunshine but after we were almost done with the sightseeing in the museum, the rain was already pouring. I am glad that I brought with me my raincoat and an umbrella.

I am so far happy visiting Albania again. It was my second visit but I still want to explore more places in the country.  I guess, this is all for now folks. I am slowly going to work in some minutes.

Safe and happy travels to all my fellow travelers. Cheers!

P.S. This post was buried again for some days. I am thankful that I find time to finish it today. I wish, I will be a full time blogger again like before.
